In the course SPAN 306 we explore the different major characteristics of Latin America culture and civilization. In addition, we read about the impact of European, African and Amerindian cultures on the culture and civilization of the continent. Also, as a class discussion we comment on the development of the history and culture of Latin America. One of the ways that the Professor Gomez tried to teach us about this was through showing the class a movie that had to do with this. For example, one of the movies was “Cabeza de Vaca”. In this movie it showed a Spanish explored of the new world and how he learned part of the culture the native people of that place practice. It also showed how the Spanish people came to a new place and force their religion to the people that were already living here. That was just one of the ways professor Gomez presented this part of history to us. Another movie that he showed us was “La Historia Oficial”. In this movie it showed us some of the characteristics of Latin America culture. It showed us how the government did everything in their power to not let the people rebel against their practices. This influence in the characteristics that started to be built the Latin American culture. Something that the professor made us do to help us have a better understanding of this culture was an oral presentation. The focus of my presentation was on "Las Artes Plásticas Latinoamericanas" and was in the style of Pecha Kucha Presentation 20X20. With this presentation it made open up more about learning the culture of other people. For that reason, I was intrigue of going studying abroad to help me understand the culture of other people and experience it myself. Thanks to Professor Gomez for making this class interesting and fun at the same time. See you in Colombia Professor Gomez!!!
