To start the semester Professor Andrade made very clear that this course would require us to be on top of our work. This was because this course was taught online and many students fall behind because they abuse the benefit of having an online course, or others just forget about the course because they do not have to attend a classroom physically. After giving us a brief introduction to the course he gave us the first assignment. For the first assignment he assigned each student with a specific task and my task for me was to do an investigation on The Alamo and to a presentation on it. This was an immense experience for because it was something new, I learned about history. I was able to share what I learned with my classmates. In this course I was also able to learn how the Mexican people had a huge impact in the United States history. Also, how many of them had to leave their families behind in the search of a better life without knowing that it would not be easy in “El Norte” how many people called it. This really made me be intrigue in the topic on how the immigrants are treated here in the United States in the 21th century. This made think about doing my capstone on how immigrants are treated now to compared to how they were treated years ago. I would to further my knowledge and find a way to contribute to this in a positive way to make a change in the society. This course was related to the previous course I had taken here at CSUMB about the Chicano life. Now with these two courses I think I has inspired me to do something about how the immigrant people are treated here in the United States because I’m an immigrant myself and some of the things that read about, I lived through. I do not want more people to be living like this and want them to truly live the American dream that many come looking for.
